Molly and Alex watch their wedding video for the first time.
Molly and Alex hired my company to shoot photos and video at their wedding. Little did they know I’d be asking them to film themselves as they watched their wedding video for the very first time.
We first met at our engagement photo shoot at Antelope Island where things didn’t go as planned. Shortly after arrival we stopped briefly on the highway to get a quick photo before we got to the final destination, we realized that the gnats were going to be an issue, but never did we imagine what we’d encounter for the next 90 minutes.
Both Alex and Molly agreed to continue on, so we did. For the next hour or so, we were stopping every 5 minutes to scratch and pick gnats out of each others’s hair. For a week or more afterward, there we’re still gnat bites on everyone’s scalp, it was not a fun experience. It felt like there were millions of little bugs eating your skin. But, despite the intense bug issues, we continued on to get some great photos.
I think it’s fair to say that their wedding day was much less of an issue. Neither Molly or Alex had seen each others’ dresses prior to the wedding day, so we coordinated a first look that was to die for! In the video, you hear the kids referring to Alex’s butt as “famous”.
It was so magical as they saw each other for the first time, each surprised by the others’ dress, but interestingly enough, they each chose a more comfortable shoe which I could not get over. It’s your wedding, do it the way you want it!
I seriously loved working with these wonderful women, both so strong as individual, and as mothers. They blended their two families into one giant ball of love. Their ceremony and reception were something out of a fairy tale with twinkly lights, a super adorable photo booth, some fabulous friends offering great advice both during the wedding ceremony itself and during the toasts. Their wedding is by far one of the most amazing weddings I have gotten to take part in. May the lovely couple and their adorable little family have a long life of adventure, leave the gnats at the lake.
As a wedding videographer, I always deliver the final product and allow the couple to watch it on their own. While I love getting phone calls, texts, and other forms of reviews online, it’s always been a wish of mine to actually witness a couple watching their wedding film for the first time. This is the reason I do what I do. Filming a wedding is literally back breaking labor, its both physically intensive and mentally/emotionally exhaustive, then there’s the editing. Seeing this video makes all that work worthwhile.
